Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray or butter.
Mixing
- In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until well blended.
- Pour half the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour the cream cheese mixture over the first layer of cake batter and spread it gently.
- Add the remaining cake batter on top of the cream cheese layer.
- Scatter the chopped strawberries on top and gently press some into the batter.
- Optionally, sprinkle coconut or nuts on top.
- Use a knife to gently swirl the toppings into the batter.
Baking
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
- Let cool in the pan before slicing and serving.
Serving Suggestions
- Serve with whipped cream and fresh strawberries on the side if desired.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days, or freeze individual slices for 2-3 months.
