  • 1 can (14.5 oz) green beans, drained Fresh green beans can also be used.
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup Consider homemade for fresher flavor.
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups French fried onions Divided into two portions.
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional) Other cheese options can be used.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, half of the French fried onions, salt, and pepper. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove from the oven and stir the casserole gently.
  3. Top with the remaining French fried onions and shredded cheese, if using.
  4. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the onions are golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. For longer storage, freeze for up to three months. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
