Salted Caramel Apple Crumble Bars

Ingredients
  

For the crust and topping
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted Use 2 sticks.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
For the filling
  • 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (about 3 medium apples) Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples.
  • 0.5 cup salted caramel sauce Store bought or homemade.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a 9 x 13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, combine melted butter, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
  4. Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the wet mixture and stir until crumbly.
  5. Press two-thirds of the crumbly mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  6. In another bowl, toss sliced apples with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Assembly
  1. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
  2. Drizzle the salted caramel sauce generously over the apples.
  3. Crumble the remaining dough mixture over the top of the apples and caramel.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Once baked, let it cool completely before slicing into bars.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week, or freeze for up to three months.
