  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for rolling

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mixing Ingredients
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract into the butter and sugar mixture.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
Chilling and Shaping
  1. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  2. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough and roll each in powdered sugar until completely coated.
Baking
  1. Place the rolled cookie balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving enough space between each ball.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until edges are set but centers still look soft.
  3. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
