Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat together the sugar and softened butter until creamy.
- Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
Baking
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and coat with powdered sugar.
- Place the dough balls on baking sheets lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the surface crinkles.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze in a single layer with parchment paper in between.
