  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality cocoa for best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring Adjust amount for deeper color.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Coating
  • Powdered sugar For coating the cookies.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat together the sugar and softened butter until creamy.
  4. Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and coat with powdered sugar.
  2. Place the dough balls on baking sheets lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them.
  3. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the surface crinkles.
  4. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze in a single layer with parchment paper in between.
