Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
For Rolling
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Method

Baking Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (around 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Form small balls of dough, about 1 inch in diameter.
  2. Roll each ball in powdered sugar.
  3. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake for 12-15 minutes. The edges should look set while the center remains soft.
  5. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze for up to three months. Use gel food coloring for more vibrant color and do not skip chilling the dough for the perfect crinkle effect.
