Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 1.8 kg Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic (optional) Add for flavor
  • 75 g melted salted butter Use melted for easier mixing
  • 240 ml hot milk or cream Warm ingredients help achieve creamy texture
  • Salt and pepper to taste Season to personal preference

Method
 

Boil Potatoes
  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into quarters.
  2. If using garlic, add the peeled whole cloves to the pot.
  3. Place the potatoes and garlic in a pot filled with cold salted water.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook for 15-20 minutes until tender.
Dry and Mash
  1. Drain potatoes in a colander and return to the hot pot.
  2. Allow to steam dry for about 2 minutes.
  3. Add melted butter to potatoes and mash with a potato masher or ricer.
Finish and Season
  1. Gradually pour in hot milk or cream while mashing for a creamy texture.
  2. Season generously with salt and pepper, tasting as you go.
  3. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days. Reheat with a splash of milk or cream.
