Method
Boil Potatoes
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into quarters.
- If using garlic, add the peeled whole cloves to the pot.
- Place the potatoes and garlic in a pot filled with cold salted water.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook for 15-20 minutes until tender.
Dry and Mash
- Drain potatoes in a colander and return to the hot pot.
- Allow to steam dry for about 2 minutes.
- Add melted butter to potatoes and mash with a potato masher or ricer.
Finish and Season
- Gradually pour in hot milk or cream while mashing for a creamy texture.
- Season generously with salt and pepper, tasting as you go.
- Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days. Reheat with a splash of milk or cream.
