  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Sifted before measuring
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavors
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Should be at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs Add one at a time
Mix-ins
  • 2 cups Nestle Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) Adds texture and flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix well and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Slowly mix in the flour mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts until evenly distributed.
  7. Drop rounded balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  2. Let the cookies sit for 2 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For chewier cookies, use more brown sugar and bake for a shorter time. Avoid overmixing the dough.
