Ingredients
  

Pasta
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni Cook according to package instructions.
Cheese Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter Melt in a saucepan.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Use for making roux.
  • 2 cups milk Add gradually to prevent lumps.
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese For a creamy and cheesy sauce.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season to your preference.
Optional Topping
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs For a crunchy topping if baked.

Method
 

Cooking the Macaroni
  1. Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Preparing the Cheese Sauce
  1. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir in all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute to make a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk to avoid lumps and continue cooking, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens (about 5 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted and smooth.
Combining and Baking (Optional)
  1. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, ensuring all pasta is coated.
  2. If desired, transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
