  • 1 lb ground beef (preferably 80/20 blend for flavor) Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • ¼ cup soy sauce Use tamari for gluten-free option.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust for spice preference.
  • 2 green onions, sliced for garnish
  • 1 cup broccoli florets Optional.
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
  • Sesame seeds Optional garnish.

Method
 

Cooking the Beef
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula for about 5 to 7 minutes.
Adding Aromatics
  1. Optional: Drain excess fat from the skillet. Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant.
Making the Sauce
  1. Pour in soy sauce, brown sugar, and sesame oil. Stir to combine and let it simmer for about 3 to 4 minutes until slightly thickened.
Adding Vegetables
  1. If using, add broccoli florets to the skillet and cook until tender, about 3 to 4 minutes.
Cooking the Rice
  1. Prepare rice according to package instructions. Use either white or brown rice.
Serving the Dish
  1. In serving bowls, add a scoop of cooked rice and top with the ground beef mixture.
Garnishing
  1. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
