Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until browned (7 to 10 minutes). Drain excess fat.
Layering
- In a baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes at the bottom.
- Spread the cooked beef and onion mixture over the potatoes.
- Pour the cream of mushroom soup over the layers evenly.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
Baking
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Cool for a few minutes before serving.
