Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt. This is your dry mixture.
- In another bowl, combine the unsweetened applesauce, honey or maple syrup, almond milk, and melted coconut oil. Stir until well mixed.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Use a small cookie scoop or your hands to form bite-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Baking
- Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown, keeping a close eye towards the end.
- While they are baking, mix additional cinnamon and sugar in a bowl for coating.
- Once baked, immediately coat the churro bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while warm.
Serving
- Allow the churro bites to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Store cooled churro bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze for 2-3 months.
