Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour Provides fiber and essential nutrients.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder For leavening.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adds flavor.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce Acts as a substitute for oil or butter.
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup Natural sweeteners. Choose based on preference.
  • 1/4 cup almond milk Substitutes dairy milk.
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil Melted, adds moisture.
Coating
  • More cinnamon and sugar for coating Mix sugar with additional cinnamon before coating.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt. This is your dry mixture.
  3. In another bowl, combine the unsweetened applesauce, honey or maple syrup, almond milk, and melted coconut oil. Stir until well mixed.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Use a small cookie scoop or your hands to form bite-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown, keeping a close eye towards the end.
  2. While they are baking, mix additional cinnamon and sugar in a bowl for coating.
  3. Once baked, immediately coat the churro bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while warm.
Serving
  1. Allow the churro bites to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Store cooled churro bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze for 2-3 months.
