  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce Adds natural sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup Adjust based on sweetness preference.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Enhances flavor.
Coating
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon sugar For coating after baking.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, combine the unsweetened applesauce, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  2. Allow to cool slightly, then roll in cinnamon sugar before serving.

Notes

Don’t overmix the dough to avoid tough churro bites. Adjust sweetness according to preference.
