Preparation
- Gather the ingredients and preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples into thin slices.
Cooking
- In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the all-purpose flour and stir to form a paste. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Add white sugar, brown sugar, and water to the saucepan and bring to a boil while stirring. Let it simmer for about 3-5 minutes until it thickens.
- Press one pastry sheet into a pie pan for the bottom crust and cut the remaining pastry into 1-inch strips for the top crust.
- Arrange the sliced apples in the bottom crust, packing them tightly.
- Create a lattice crust using the strips of pastry over the apples.
- Pour the sugar-butter mixture over the lattice crust.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425 degrees F, then reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
Serve slices warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Coffee or tea pairs well with it. Store at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
