Preparation
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Form the mixture into 6 to 8 oval-shaped patties of similar size and let them rest for about 10 minutes.
Cooking
- Preheat an oven-safe skillet over medium heat and brown each patty for about 3-4 minutes on each side.
- Remove the browned patties and set them aside. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Sauté sliced onions in the butter until translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Add flour and stir for 2 minutes to thicken the gravy.
- Gradually whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream, stirring until the mixture thickens.
- Nestle the browned patties back into the skillet, cover, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
Serving
- Allow the dish to rest for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy over mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
For a thicker gravy, let it simmer longer after adding liquid ingredients. Serve this dish with a variety of sides like mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
