  • 4 large large potatoes, thinly sliced Starchy varieties like Russets or Yukon Golds work best.
  • 2 cups heavy cream Do not boil when heating.
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese Can experiment with other cheeses.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • to taste Salt and pepper Use to enhance flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Dot on top before baking.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream and add minced garlic over low to medium heat. Do not allow it to boil.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  4. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle half of the cheeses on top.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
  6. Dot the top with butter and season with salt and pepper.
Baking
  1. Bake for 1 hour, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  2. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Let the dish cool before storing leftovers. Cover tightly and refrigerate for up to three days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-30 minutes.
