  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced Use starchy potatoes like Russets or Yukon Golds.
  • 2 cups heavy cream For a vegan version, substitute with coconut cream.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to use different cheeses.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese For topping.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds flavor to the cream sauce.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust according to taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adjust for heat preference.
  • 1 tablespoon butter For greasing the baking dish.
  • to taste Fresh herbs for garnish Optional, for added flavor and decoration.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
  5. Repeat with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses, topping with grated Parmesan.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving, and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

Great as a side dish for roast chicken, grilled meats, or potlucks. Can be prepared a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
