Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature Ensure it's softened for mixing.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs Should be at room temperature.
Add-ins
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans) Add if desired.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir together and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the room temperature unsalted butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined; do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them apart.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
  2. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes before baking can improve texture.
