Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour Spoon and level method for accurate measurement.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Should be at room temperature.
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed Adds moisture and flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs At room temperature.
Mix-ins
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) Such as walnuts or pecans.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and, if desired, the chopped nuts.
Baking
  1. Drop rounded balls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them apart.
  2. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown at the edges and slightly soft in the center.
  3. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving
  1. Serve warm with milk or plate for gatherings. For extra warmth, microwave for a few seconds before serving.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for a week or freeze for up to three months. Thaw at room temperature or microwave before serving.
