Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure butter is not melted.
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs Add one at a time.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Gradually fold in.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons hot water To mix with baking soda.
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate baking chips Ghirardelli preferred for taste.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, blend softened butter with granulated and brown sugars on medium speed until creamy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a small bowl, mix baking soda with warm water and add to the batter mixture.
  5. Gradually stir in baking powder and salt, followed by the all-purpose flour until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips gently using a spatula.
Baking
  1. Drop heaping 2 tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 12-13 minutes until cookies are golden.
  3. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

To keep your cookies fresh, store in an airtight container at room temperature. For extended storage, refrigerate or freeze as needed.
