Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's softened but not melted.
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar Adjust to taste if you like sweeter cookies.
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar For a less sweet cookie, reduce granulated sugar slightly.
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
Mix-Ins
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate) Feel free to experiment with different types of chocolate.
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour and baking soda. Stir them together with a whisk.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt together until creamy and smooth.
  4. Mix in the vanilla extract. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing at low speed until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts using a spatula.
Baking
  1. Use a cookie scoop or spoon to drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown around the edges.
  3. Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Serving
  1. Serve warm or at room temperature, ideally with a glass of milk.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature butter. Consider chilling the dough for about 30 minutes before baking to help the cookies keep their shape.
